Obituary for Gladys Benatar

Gladys Benatar
Gladys (Ferrer) Benatar, age 90, of Manassas, Virginia, our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2014.

Gladys spent her younger years in New York City and was one of the original “Rosie the Riveters”, helping build war planes during World War II. After the war, Gladys married the love of her life, Jack Benatar. They moved to North Babylon on Long Island and raised their four children. Jack and Gladys retired to California in 1979 and built a home in Los Banos.

Gladys will always be remembered for her love of music and her wonderful eye for design. Her home was always decorated in the most elegant style. She and Jack were well known for the wonderful clam bakes they shared with their family and friends when they lived on Long Island. She was always an elegant hostess. Together Jack and Gladys were great dance partners, and they enjoyed a very special partnership throughout their lives.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Haddock and Diego Ferrer, her husband, Jack Benatar, her sister, Judith, her brother, William and her half brother, Edward.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Judith and Patricia, and her sons, Robert and Dennis. Gladys is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, will always be loved and missed by all of us. She will always be in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held in California at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in Gladys’ name to Disabled Veterans.
