Rita was born in Udine, Italia on April 26, 1920. Her parents were Raffael and Caterina Orsaria. She was one of 5 children. Her brothers Quirino, Bruno, Edo and her sister Erta. Rita’s first employment was as a nanny in Rome for Contessa Cardona. When in Rome she auditioned at Cinema Citta’ and was an extra in many films and starred in a film where she was one of three sisters.

Rita met Nicolas Miele, an American Army Solider in Rome during WWll and married in a small Vatican Chapel in 1943. They had their first child, Giancarla (Gia) in 1944 and Richard in 1946. In 1948 she moved with her husband to the USA where they settled in Levittown, NY and then Bethpage, NY. In 1956 they had a third child, Candida (Candy).

Rita was widowed in 1960 and re-married Edward Kowalski 1961 where they lived in Brookville, NY. Rita was widowed in 1965 and moved to Port Washington NY, where she worked as a seamstress in a bridal shop. She then met Francis Ferrer, MD and married in 1970 where they lived in Rye, NY. Rita was very active in charity work, played tennis and entertained in their home. Francis died in 1990.

Rita moved to McLean Virginia in 2000 and was an active member of NIAF and the Italian Cultural Society where she assisted teaching conversational Italian. She then moved from McLean to Manassas, VA in 2009 and eventually settled in at Sudley Manor House.

She is survived by her daughter, Giancarla Miele of Richmond, VA; her son Richard Miele of Alexandria, VA; her daughter Candida and son-in-law, Mark Verrilli, of Manassas, VA; her grandchildren, Derek, Mark Nicolas, and Ryan Verrilli; and her great-granddaughter Haley Verrilli all of Manassas, VA.

Private services will be held at a later date.
