Obituary for Anita Mae Bishop

Anita Mae  Bishop
Anita Mae Bishop, age 83, of Manassas, Virginia passed away peacefully on April 15, 2017 at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living with family by her side.

Anita was born on May 2, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio. On her 18th birthday, she enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training she was assigned to the Signal Corps, and was stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia. Her duties included working as a cryptographer at the Pentagon translating sensitive and secret military communication. There she met her husband, Ralph Bishop, also an Army Private in the Signal Corps.

Anita and Ralph were married on November 14, 1952 and after leaving military service, they resided in Arlington, Virginia. In 1960 they moved to Annandale, Virginia where they resided until 1980. Anita held various jobs including working for the telephone company and as an office manager. She spent many years as a homemaker, raising her children, and volunteering for organizations such as Scouting and Band Boosters.

In 1980, Anita and Ralph built a home in Spotsylvania, Virginia and resided there until moving to Bristow, VA in 2010.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and her parents, Bill and Mae Laufhutte.

She is survived by her son, Mike and his wife Sheila, of Centreville, VA; her daughter, Lisa Northup of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Kevin Northup of Raleigh, NC, Scott Northup of Arcata, CA, Stephanie Dunbar and her husband Eric, of Bristow, VA, Stacey Northup of Raleigh, NC, and Jennifer Bishop of Centreville, VA.

Anita was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed.

A private graveside service will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery.
