Obituary for Hilda Dorothy Allen
Hilda Dorothy Allen, 86, of Manassas Park, Virginia, passed away on July 26, 2017 at home from Alzheimer’s disease.
Burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Baker-Post Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Hilda was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada to Archibald and Alice (Wilson) Baillie on September 8, 1930. She graduated from St; John High School and went on to earn an Associate in Nursing from Newton Junior College, a Bachelor in Nursing from Salem State College, and an Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. She worked for the City of Boston as a Public Health Nurse and an Adult and Oncology Nurse Practitioner. She also worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the Boston Veterans Affairs Hospital and the Massachusetts State Corrections Department.
She enjoyed gardening, caring for her pets, knitting, and reading. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary Post 3103 Fredericksburg. She also supported the Salvation Army, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Last Resort of Hanover, Greyhound Pets of Massachusetts and Maryland.
Hilda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lorraine and Frank Smith of Manassas Park, VA; grandchildren Stephen (Jolene) Smith of Richmond, VA, Daniel Smith of Reston, VA, Kaitlyn Allen of Wareham, MA, and Brendan Allen of Taunton, MA, and great-granddaughter Lillian Smith of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by 4 nieces in Ontario, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her spouse Paul Allen; son Paul Allen, Jr.; parents Archibald and Alice; sister and brother-in-law Thelma and Ronald Hall; and her brothers Ronald and Donald Baillie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any local high school or college nursing scholarships.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Inova Advanced Illness and Geriatric Program, Inova Visiting Nurse Agency, and Vitas Healthcare for their care and support during her illness.
