Obituary for Wendy Dawn Kohn

Wendy Dawn Kohn
On October 10, 2017, Wendy Dawn Kohn, 54, passed away with her family by her side at her residence on Hoadly Road in Manassas, VA after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her father Maurice Kohn and her older brother, Wayne Kohn. She is survived by her mother, Mary Kohn; one brother, Wendell “Lil Bro” Kohn (and wife, Debbie) of Manassas; one sister, Wanda Green (and husband, John) of Roderfield, WV; nephew Richard Green (and wife, Lori) of Coeur d’Alene, ID; nephew Robert Green (and wife, Amy) of Roderfield, WV; nephew Geoff Kohn (and wife, Julie) of Centreville, VA; nephews Josh and Zak Kohn of Manassas, VA; niece Janna Shick (and husband, John) of Butler, PA; niece Julie”bug” Green of Roderfield, WV; 5 great-nephews and 2 great nieces: James, Micah, Lewis and Laura Green, Allison and Wyatt Shick, and Calvin Kohn; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

Born October 1, 1963, in Warrenton, VA, Wendy was the daughter of the late Maurice Preston Kohn and Mary Elizabeth Kohn. She spent her early years in Sunday School and as the baby of the family was her dad’s little shadow. Wendy graduated from Osbourn Park High School in 1981 and began working for Kohn’s Upholstery, her father’s business. She attended Washington Business School and then, starting in 1997, she served her country as a federal employee and government contractor until 2014 when her health began to fail. Wendy was a member of the Church of God on Rixlew Lane in Manassas; her inner fortitude and irrepressible joy, especially obvious in her final months of life, was because of this spiritual source of strength.

Wendy’s gift in life was bringing joy to others. At times this joy was a heartfelt and much-needed word of love and encouragement - whether mailed, hand-delivered, texted or phoned. And at times this joy was a funny (or outrageous!) prank stamped with her own brand of quirky humor. She was directionally-challenged when traveling and a fanatic about sweeping the floor when at home. She loved cats, confetti, 7-Eleven Slurpies, Big Macs, honey-baked hams, birthdays and any celebration of a special occasion. But more than these, Wendy loved all things patriotic and was incredibly proud of her dad, a WWII Purple Heart recipient. Wendy pre-wrote a portion of her obituary a few weeks ago; at the end, she penned, “My only regret is that Prince William County will have one less Republican voter.”

The Baker-Post Funeral Home will serve the Kohn family. The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Church of God, 8823 Rixlew Lane, Manassas. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, where Wendy will be laid to rest near her dad and brother. Condolences may be left at www.bakerpostfh.com.
