Obituary for Richard Mathew Rafter

Richard Mathew  Rafter
Richard Mathew Rafter, 59, of Manassas, VA, passed away October 20, 2017, at Prince William Hospital. Richard was born on November 9, 1957, in Brownsville, PA to the late Thomas and Helen (Biondic) Rafter. He graduated from St. Johns High School in Uniontown, PA and attended Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. On October 10, 1986, he married Sharon (Shaw) Rafter in Ohiopyle, PA. He enjoyed a career providing hotel security for several hotels in the DC area including the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Richard was a tried and true member of the Steeler Nation. He was a passionate man with the mind of a steel trap who had many loves including acting, the Grateful Dead, the Pittsburgh Pirates, animals and his grandchildren. He realized his dream as an actor in his roles in Maria’s Lovers and In the Name of Justice. He had a great appreciation for music, theater, art, travel and sports. His favorite trips included driving across the country and cruising to Ireland. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sharon and four daughters, Tammy Rhoderick and her husband Robert, Tina Kashmer and her husband Tim, Vickie Yoo and her husband Chung, and Rosemary Heath and her husband David. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Bryan, Jeremy, Drew, Kyle, Heather, Gianna, Tabitha, Evan, Julia, and Alyssa; and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Michael Rafter and his wife Michelle; nieces Alicia and Maureen Rafter. He also survived by cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen Rafter, sister Lisa Rafter, and grandson Chase Dulla.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, October 27, 2017, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A memorial service will take place beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Todd Tennant officiating.

A reception will immediately follow the service at Oaks of Wellington, Great Room, 10240 Hendley Road, Manassas, Virginia, B entrance.
