Obituary for Joseph Benjamin Johnson Sr.

Joseph Benjamin  Johnson Sr.
Joseph Benjamin Johnson, Sr., 93, of Manassas, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in Manassas, Virginia.

Born on August 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Wheatley and Dorothy Haydon Johnson.

Joe was a graduate of Osbourn High School, and later served In the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Manassas and was very proud of his city. He owned and operated the Johnson Family Farm, which now serves as the home for Grace United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Manassas City School Board for over 25 years, where he also served as its chairman from 1975-1985, and again from 1995-2000. He was actively involved in the development of the Johnson Learning Center, and was one of the founders of the Prince William County Fair.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Ann Johnson Martin and his granddaughter, Cher Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gem Johnson; 3 sons, Sonny Johnson, Jimmy Johnson (Diane), Joe Johnson, Jr. (Carol); daughter, Terry Johnson Liesener; grandchildren, Austin, Joey, III, Ivy, Chelsea, Abbey, Katie and great-granddaughter, Caelynn.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Rudy Tucker, Jr. officiating.

Interment will immediately follow the service in the Grace United Methodist Cemetery.

Light refreshments will be served at the church following the service.
