Obituary for Pearl Frances Loan

Pearl Frances Loan, née Richards, passed away peacefully at Virginia Hospital Center on December 16, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Nellie Richards; her sister Elsie Jean Herrin, née Richards; her ex-husband Howard Loan; and her son-in-law James (Jim) McCusker, Jr. Pearl is survived by her son James William (Bill) Loan, his wife Marianne and their son Nicholas; her daughter Linda Jean McCusker, née Loan and her children Tyler, Ryan, Katie and Sean; her brother James (Jimmy) Richards, his wife Patricia and their children James ,Kevin, and Cheraine; and her sister’s son Richard (Richie) Herrin. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews, and by many friends.

Pearl grew up in Falls Church, Virginia, and lived most of her adult life in Manassas, Virginia, where she raised her family. In her youth she attended McLean High School where she was voted “girl with the best legs” by her class! She was also a beauty queen as she was crowned “ Miss Dunn Loring” when she was a young woman. Later in life after her kids were older she returned to school. She attended Northern Virginia Community College to study Criminal Justice. Retired at the time of her passing, she was previously employed at the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center, where she ultimately attained the rank of Lieutenant. She took great pride in her achievements during her career, and was well-liked and respected by her peers.

Pearl had many friends; she enjoyed playing Bingo and was a life-long Redskins fan. Pearl was known for her elegance and exquisite taste. She dressed impeccably and her home was decorated beautifully enough to be featured in a magazine. She was a sentimental person, who amassed quite a collection of cards, notes and letters from her loved ones. While she enjoyed the bright lights of Las Vegas, she also enjoyed the peace of nature, often “going for a drive” to the country to “listen to silence.”

Pearl was a complicated and wonderful person who will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends.
According to her wishes, her memorial will be private.

The grave is but a covered bridge, leading from light to light, through a brief darkness.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
