Obituary for Shirley Ann Snow

Shirley Ann Snow
Shirley Ann Tyson Snow was born on July 13, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Van and Christina Tyson, and departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.

During her early life, Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Nesbit, MS. She received her formal education in the public school system of Memphis, Tennessee and at Memphis Area Vocational Business College. She was employed as an Executive Secretary at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, TN where she met the love of her life, Tommie Snow. Only she didn’t know it then and rebuffed his initial advance. Years later, on a second attempt, she gave him a chance and was united with him in Holy Matrimony on August 17, 1969. Through this union, God blessed them with eight children.

The couple relocated to Northern Virginia where Shirley was employed as a secretary for IBM, and later as a daycare provider for Children’s World. She joined Star Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Triangle, Virginia in 1978 and served faithfully in the Deaconess and Marriage ministries until her health declined.
Shirley was a devoted wife, an amazing mother, a praying grandmother, a loving sister, and a fantastic friend. She will be remembered fondly for her delectable peach cobbler, her kind and encouraging words, her unshakeable faith, her quiet spirit, and the inspiration she was to so many.

Shirley was preceded in death by her eighth child, Thomas Snow; her sister Celestine Tyson Bell; and her brother Van Robert Tyson, Jr. Those left to treasure her memory are her devoted husband of 48 years, Rev. Tommie Snow, Sr.; seven children, Tommy, Jr. (Jennifer), Timothy, Titus (Tierrah), Thaddaeus (LaTonya), Theophilus (Shakinta), Tamar (DeVaughn), and Tychicus; twenty-one grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara Jean Tyson and Jeannette Tyson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear and wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Star Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Triangle, VA. Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Internment will occur at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Quantico National Cemetery.
