Doris Day Gaskill, 83, of Manassas, VA, died on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at her daughter’s home.

Born October 25, 1934, in Jessup, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Hood) Day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Howard Gaskill; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Day; and one niece, Shannon Forrester.

She grew up in Jessup and graduated from Arundel High School in 1952. Mrs. Gaskill studied piano at the Peabody Preparatory Music School in Baltimore, MD. She was married in 1954. From 1959 until 1993, she and her family lived in West Laurel, MD. In 1993 and until 2012, she resided in Mountain Lake Park, MD. In 2012, she went to live with her older daughter in Manassas, VA.

Mrs. Gaskill worked as a clerk for the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup, as a bookkeeper for People’s Drug Store in Laurel, MD, and as a bus driver with the Prince George’s County (Maryland) Public Schools for 27 years.

She was raised as a Methodist and attended Wesley Chapel, in Jessup, MD. Later, she became an Episcopalian. As an accomplished organist, Mrs. Gaskill played the organ at Trinity Episcopal Church in Elkridge, MD and at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Oakland, MD for Sunday services for over thirty years.
While living in Mountain Lake Park, MD, Mrs. Gaskill was an active member in the Oakland Civic Club and the Garrett Choral Society.

Surviving are her daughters, Deborah Young and husband, Steven, of Manassas, VA, and Catherine Romage and husband Mark, of Mount Hope, WV; and her son, Michael, of Middle River, MD. Also surviving are a brother, Paul Day, of Glen Burnie, MD; a sister-in-law, Anne Gaskill Forrester and husband Donald, of Georgetown, DE; two grandsons, Travis Young and wife Mary, of Points, WV and Shane Young of Manassas, VA; a great granddaughter, Scarlet Young, of Points, WV; and two nephews, Charles Day and wife Michelle, of Glen Burnie, MD, and Martin Day and wife Toni, of Glen Burnie, MD.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 31st from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home. P.A., 21 North Second Street, Oakland, MD. The funeral will be conducted at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 318 Oak Street, Oakland, MD, on Thursday, February 1st at 10 AM with Rev. Matthew Paugh officiating.

Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
