Obituary:
Rear Admiral James E. Miller, USN (ret.), age 78, of Gainesville, passed away December 29th, 2012 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

Born September 9th, 1934 in California, he was the son of the late Dwight and Mildred Skelton Miller. On August 26th, 1961 in San Diego, CA, he married the former Anna Brancato, who survives.

Jim served in the United States Navy for 37 years, specializing in logistics. He served with distinction during the Pueblo Incident in Korea, in Vietnam, and during the first Gulf War. His career culminated in a posting as the Chief of the Naval Supply Corps. Some of his many commendations included the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with gold star (for third award) and the Distinguished Service Medal.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Manassas; the Gainesville/Haymarket Rotary Club; and the Military Officers Association. He also served for many years as the Director of Logistics for the Children’s Wellness Festival; a joint venture between many area Rotary Clubs.

Surviving besides his beloved wife of 51 years, Anna Miller of Gainesville, are one daughter, Paula Clemens and her husband Steve of Hainesport, NJ; one son, James D. Miller and his wife Diane of Warrenton; one sister, Betty Leecing of California; one brother, Dwight Miller and his wife Ruth of California; and three grandchildren, James J. Miller, Samantha Clemens, and Annie Clemens.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 5th, 2013 from 3-4 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas. A celebration of Jim’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with The Rev. Rudy Tucker, Jr. and The Rev. Meredith McNabb officiating.

Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
