Obituary for Marjorie Ann Peterson

Marjorie Ann Peterson
September 19, 1928 – January 10, 2017

After a long illness, Marjorie (Margie) Ann Peterson passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by her sons and daughter-in-law on January 10, 2017. She was born in Schwientochlowice, Poland on September 19, 1928. One of eight children, Mrs. Peterson is predeceased by her parents, August and Agnes Sladek and six of her siblings (Gerhard, Gunter, Erika, Adelheid (Susie), Walter, and Horst), and has one surviving brother in Germany (Reiner).

As a young woman, Margie survived the hardships of World War II in Labor camps. She met and married an American soldier, Edwin B. Peterson, Sr. and moved to the US in 1948 with her infant son Edwin B. Peterson, Jr. Her second son, Robert L. Peterson, was born in 1954.

A resident of Arlington, VA since 1958, as a single parent Mrs. Peterson worked at both Melpar (wiring aircraft cockpits) and at A&P Food Store, where she started as a meat wrapper and worked her way up to head cashier and bookkeeper. Buying the house where she lived for 51 years and raising her two sons were outstanding accomplishments in which Margie took great pride.

Margie is survived by her two sons, Edwin B. Peterson, Jr. “Ed” of Arlington, VA and Robert L. Peterson “Bobby” and daughter-in-law, Jeanie, both of Manassas, VA. Also surviving are step-grandchildren, Michael Breeding (Beth), Melissa Douglas (Brent), and Meagan Skeel (Travis), and step-great-grandchildren, Thomas Breeding, Mason Breeding, Ava Douglas, and Luke Douglas. In addition, she is survived by nephews James Sylvester (Maureen), Gerald Sylvester, Jr. (Mary), and nieces Judy Shorey (Ralph), Robin Sylvester, and Christina Stephan, as well as several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, friends and families may make donations to the charity of their choice. All who knew Margie and her cheerful disposition and kindness will know that your memories and prayers for this loving and caring woman are all that are needed.

Family will receive friends at the Baker-Post Funeral Home 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas, VA on Sunday January 15, 2017 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. A Prayer Service will be in the Chapel at 1:00pm with Deacon Brian Majewski officiating.

Interment will be held in Heaters, WV at a later date.
