Obituary for Marjorie Fielding Barnes - O'Brien (Barnes)

Marjorie “Lorie” Barnes O’Brien, born 6/10/30, died on 8/28/20 at her daughter’s home in Manassas, Virginia.

She was raised and spent most of her life in New York City. Lorie appeared in Broadway musicals, stock and cabaret nationwide, and was half of the dance team, “Lori & Jon”, with first husband John Delaney. Until 1969 she used the stage name “Lori Jon”, but thereafter was known professionally as Lorie Barnes.

Her parents, Marjery Fielding & Charles Barnes spent their lives involved in musical theatre. They trained Lorie from a young age in dance and voice. Lorie’s first stage appearance was in 1935 at the St. Louis Municipal Opera Company, in “The Red Mill”; her last was as chanteuse at Judy’s Cabaret in NYC, accompanied by her late brother, Buddy Barnes, on 12/31/91. Her published memoir is entitled “Things Seen and Unseen”.

She leaves two brothers, five children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
