Other family members are her nieces and nephews which include, Paulette Olsen, Jim Stone and Raymond Stone.
Becky was born in Altoona, PA to Norman and Rebecca Sigel Kerns as the oldest of three children. The family moved to Arlington where Becky spent her childhood and attended school. She married Gene E. Hill a Washington, D.C. firefighter, on June 28, 1952. After working a few years as a children’s librarian for the Arlington County Public Library, Becky stayed home to raise their only child, Anita. Based in part on her experience as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and participant in other volunteer programs in her community, she was hired in 1967 by the Fairfax County Public Schools as a teacher assistant in a newly created kindergarten program. Soon after starting her career, she also completed an associate degree from the Northern Virginia Community College.
Gene and Becky designed and built their home in Haymarket, Virginia during a two-year period before moving there from Falls Church. Gene died suddenly after only living there a few years. Becky continued in her kindergarten aide position, retiring after 23 years of continuous service. During retirement, she took care of the house and land with some assistance from her daughter and son-in-law for the next 34 years, tirelessly maintaining a neat and manicured yard. She enjoyed seeing her property bloom each spring, particularly the numerous azaleas planted by Gene which outline the home. She also enjoyed an active part in watching her granddaughters grow into adulthood and graduate from college to begin their own professional careers. Becky was an active member of the Sudley United Methodist Church near the Manassas Battlefield, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school and serving on many church committees for over two decades. She will be remembered as a caring and creative person by former students, friends, family and people she taught and served in her life
