Obituary for Charles H. "Charlie" Joo

Charles H. "Charlie" Joo
Charles H. Joo, known to his family, friends and players as “Coach Charlie”, passed away November 13, 2022. Born April 15, 1971, in South Korea, he was the son of Hui and Kathy Song Joo.

Charlie graduated from the University of Virginia and received his master’s in Organic Chemistry from University of Illinois -Chicago. He later worked as an Investment Broker in the financial industry for over 20 years. Charlie moved to the Manassas area in 2010 with his family and found his true passion, coaching youth baseball for three years and most recently youth softball athletes, focusing on teaching them the fundamentals of the game. He was very active at GMBL for the past decade, coaching many of the Rec Teams, and the Manassas Blue & Gray Softball to a World Series win. You often found Charlie at 6-4-3, giving hitting lessons to his current, and many of his former players looking to improve their skills.

Coach Charlie is survived by his mother and father, Hui and Kathy Joo; one sister, Helen Joo and her husband Jay Lamboy; two nieces, Jayla and Kayli “KK” Lamboy; and a host of friends thru his softball community.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with interment immediately following in Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA 22032.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Contributions in Charlie’s honor may take the form of a donation to GMBL P.O. Box 4433, Manassas, VA 20108; or to www.manassasbaseball.com.
