Obituary for Clifford George Doke

Clifford George  Doke
Clifford George Doke, 88, of Manassas, passed away June 8, 2020 at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA.

Born January 2, 1932 in Montana, he was the son of the late Elmer Floyd Doke and Mary Huntington Pointer Doke. Clifford married Deborah Dein Mulvey, who survives.

Cliff retired from the US Department of Agriculture in 2001 after 30 years of service.
Before Cliff began his career with the Federal Govt. he was a volunteer with the Peace Corp in Liberia. During his career, he traveled on short term assignments to numerous foreign countries on every continent except Antarctica. He worked with the Agency for International Development; and international organizations such as the Food and Agricultural Organization; the World Bank; and with foreign governments, embassy officials, and ambassadors to improve and protect natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Cliff also served on a 2 year assignment in Turkey and a 4 year assignment in Saudi Arabia. He was a liaison with the Turkish Govt. and worked side by side with the local famers to teach them to plant crops that would provide a steady income for their families throughout the year. He also worked with the Saudi Arabian Government to provide leadership in developing, Maintaining, and protecting natural resources for the whole Kingdom.

Cliff enjoyed gardening in the spring, planting vegetables for his family for the summer months. What he loved and found most relaxing was taking trips to visit his family in Montana.

Surviving besides his loving wife and daughter, Christine, are two sisters, Doris Sherwood of Spokane, Washington and Loretta Doke of Glasgow, Montana.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A celebration of Cliff’s life will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dallas Slemp officiating.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Parkinsons Research Foundation at 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Ste. 100, Sarasota, Fl. 34232.
