Obituary for Derek Eugene Fields

Derek Eugene Fields
Derek Eugene Fields was born to Charles Linwood and Paula Gaskins Fields on July 13, 1977, in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was educated in the Prince William County Public Schools System from preschool to middle school in Dale City, VA; and graduated Stonewall Jackson High School (now known as Unity Reed High School) in Manassas, Virginia.

Derek worked various general labor jobs throughout Prince William County. His passions were music, particularly “go-go” and “hip-hop,” Fishing and just being around all the little kids.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Dudley and Hattie Burke Gaskins; maternal grandmother, Naomi “Mimi” Iola Gaskins and uncle Wade R. Gaskins (Lillian); his paternal grandfather, Eugene Fields (Mary Agnes); and his paternal uncles, James Archie Fields (Queenie) and Joseph Fields, Sr.
In keeping with the “C’mon in, open door” practice of his parents, Derek was always surrounded by family and friends. Many have found a meal to sit down to and a place to stay for a while at the Fields’ house whether in Dale City or Broad Run.

In addition to his parents, Derek leaves to cherish his memory; his godfather, Maurice Hampton; godmother, Paulette Gaskins Horne; godson, Daniel R. Alfaro; stepdaughter, Emily Cardona; aunts, Judith L. Gaskins Cheek, Carol Gaskins, Sally Fields White, Katie Fields Smith, and Gloria Burke Field; uncles, Wade C. Gaskins, Udon Cheek, Sr., and Robert Smith. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, his former wife, Penny Cardona Fields; his special friend, Jason Whittington, and many other friends and acquaintances.

A Home Going Memorial will take place at Baker-Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia on Saturday, May 1, 2021 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Due to COVID restriction, it will be limited attendance.
