Obituary for Duane J. Riege

Duane J. Riege
Duane Jackson Riege
June 19, 1946 - May 12, 2022

Duane Riege, age 75, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2022 in Prince William Hospital surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Duane is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann, daughters Christine (Sean) Murphy and Teresa (Karl) Majer, his four grandchildren, Alexandra and Jonas Murphy, Gabriella and Anastasia Majer, his sister Marcia Pesek, nephews Paul and Michael Pesek, and niece Laura Arnett.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 19, 1946 to Lynn and Grace Riege. The family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when Duane was a young boy. He attended University High for high school and excelled in football, basketball, track, as well as his studies. He starred in the high school musicals and sang in the church choir.

Duane graduated from the University of Michigan and completed one year of graduate school before he was called to serve in the Navy. He married Ann Yerks in June 1969, and he served 20 years as a supply officer in various duty stations from Rhode Island, Hawaii, Georgia, Pennsylvania, California, Guam and finally retiring in Virginia.

Duane was an avid Michigan fan (Go Blue!), loved college football, basketball and golf. He received his MBA from George Mason University, sang in the church choir, volunteered with church activities and loved hosting pool parties in their backyard.

Duane also loved their Florida houses, first in Naples and then Fort Myers. Here he could play golf, tennis, neighborhood card games and dancing at the club.

Recently, Duane and Ann moved to Heritage Hunt in Gainesville, VA where they enjoyed lovely neighbors on their cul-de-sac.

A Celebration of Life is planned and a ceremony will be held at Arlington Cemetery at a future date.
