Obituary for Earl John Oberbauer Jr.

Earl John Oberbauer Jr.
Earl John Oberbauer, Jr., 73, of Manassas, Virginia departed this world for heaven on January 17th, 2021.

A private celebration of Earl’s life will be held Wednesday, February 3rd at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Inurnment will also take place on February 3rd 12:00 pm at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, Virginia. All are welcome, we recommend masks and social distancing.

Quite simply, Earl was a good man.

He was a kind, loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a passion for music, soccer, poker and work. He took great pleasure in his family and pride in practicing law and helping others. He was admired by fellow attorneys and his clients expressed their deep gratitude for his hard work and compassion. As a testament to his character, he had two dedicated employees, Shelly Hammack and Gina Peters, that worked for him for three decades and became part of his family.

Earl was born on June 4, 1947 in Belleville, Illinois to parents Earl and Irene Oberbauer. He grew up in Belleville with his two older sisters, Mary Ellen and Karen. He graduated from Althoff Catholic High School in 1965. During high school, he worked at the local Dairy Queen and the library. Earl was a naturally talented musician who sang and played piano and guitar. He made many memories performing with his band in and around St. Louis. On April 3, 1969, he married his wife of over 48 years, Amy Jane Sutton. They initially lived in Illinois and then Kansas City, Missouri. In May 1972, the family moved to Manassas, where they raised their two daughters, Leslie and Laura. Earl stayed active with Leslie’s competitive horseback riding and Laura’s travel soccer team, which he coached for many years. Once Leslie and Laura started families of their own, Earl became an engaged and energetic grandfather. He was a reliable FaceTime friend and answered his grandchildren’s calls at any time of day.

Earl had the gift of gab but was also a good listener. He had the ability to make everyone he encountered feel like they were important and special. He was a calm and comforting presence. While working full time for the Social Security Administration, raising a family and being an Army Reservist, Earl earned his J.D. from the American University in Washington, D.C. He combined his experience with Social Security, his law degree and his desire to help others into a successful law practice that improved the lives of countless clients. He was extremely generous with sharing his knowledge and experience with those around him. Earl was handy and enjoyed DIY projects. He was a perfectionist in all he did, and his work and projects were completed with precision.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Irene, nee Oberto, Oberbauer and first wife, Amy Sutton Oberbauer in 2017.

Earl reconnected with Pam Verrone in July 2019 during a family vacation to the Outer Banks. He was immediately smitten, and they married August 22, 2020 in Charlotte, North Carolina surrounded by their families. Pam’s family quickly became a part of Earl’s life and he was ecstatic to spend the rest of his life with her. He was reinvigorated and happy in the last year of his life. He continued to practice law but spent much of his time enjoying the company of his new bride. During their marriage, they traveled between the Outer Banks and Manassas with many stops to visit family. Earl will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Pamela Verrone-Oberbauer; daughter Leslie Kostelecky and husband Tony; daughter Laura Stark and husband Philip; stepchildren Jerry Verrone, Bryan Verrone and wife Nicole and Dana Verrone-Perry and husband Yates; sisters Mary Ellen Soucy and husband Glen and Karen Deluca; grandchildren John Kostelecky; Emma, Lucy and Sutton Stark; Madi, Mya, Eli and Edy Verrone; Johnny and Nick Mastroiani, Mikey Cox; stepmother Frances Whitler Hill, and many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
