Obituary for Emmett James Evans

Emmett James Evans
Emmett James Evans, 70 of Centreville passed away on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020 from complications of COVID-19.

Emmett was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 4th, 1950. He moved to the Northern Virginia area as a young adult, where he met his wife of 46 years, Vanita ‘Nini’ Evans. Emmett worked for and retired from Fairfax County Public Schools as the Building Supervisor for Bull Run Elementary. In his spare time, Emmett enjoyed shopping for his six grandchildren, watching sports and arguing about them with his son (or anyone who would listen), or just going for a drive.

Emmett loved Funk music, which was evident from the license plates on his cars. He was a fan of the New England Patriots, the UNC Tarheels, the Duke Blue Devils and many more teams, but his absolute favorite was the Dallas Cowboys and he loved watching them play every Thanksgiving with his family. He was the most amazing chef, and the moment you walked in the house your stomach would growl from the scents wafting from the kitchen. Though he was not a fan of pets, he was very fond of his son’s dog Bailey, and often let the dog lay with him. Emmett was known for his collection of shoes and hats, and was never seen without matching from head to toe, from his shoes to his eye glasses.

Emmett was a presence. He was a quiet and private person, unless he was yelling about sports, but still made everyone feel welcome. He had the most infectious smile, and would always make people laugh, even without trying. Emmett will be greatly missed.

Emmett is survived by his wife, Vanita ‘Nini’; his daughters Danielle, Mikki, and his son & daughter-in-law Ambrose and Lauren Evans; his grandchildren Alyssa, Jesse, Trey, Jayden, Mischa, and Ariana; as well as many family, friends, and loved ones.
