Obituary for Ethel Lorraine May

Ethel Lorraine  May
Ethel Lorraine May, 85, of Stafford, Virginia passed away on October 21, 2022 at Stafford Hospital. She was born on April 8, 1937 to James Franklin Burke Sr and Helen Eloise Burke.

Ethel was dedicated to her children and family; she enjoyed volunteering at the elementary school and Sunday school classes. She worked at G.C. Murphy’s in Manassas, VA then at Bendix Communications. She retired from the Dulles Toll Road after 13 years. Many of her co-workers became her extended family.
Ethel enjoyed dancing, listening to music, playing cards, watching westerns especially those with John Wayne and painting ceramics and making beautiful pieces for others. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and anything relating to Mickey Mouse. Christmas was her favorite time of year and loved buying gifts for others. She loved being in photos with family, especially the three and four generation ones. She enjoyed looking at pictures of her many trips with family and friends. She was known for her love of family and endless generosity always putting others first. She made a lasting and loving impression on everyone she met.

She is survived by her five children, son, Joseph May Jr, of Bealeton, son Melvin (Sheri) May, of Stafford, son, David May of Woodbridge, daughter, Sharon (Jerry) Harris of Catlett, son, Paul (Brenda) May of Fairfax. She is also survived by grandchildren Joseph May, Kimberly May, Jon Revis, Jerry Harris, Jason Harris, Paul May Jr, Travis May, Julia May and great-grandchildren William May, Bryan May, Emily May, Nicole Keefe. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Lightner of Bakersfield, CA. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph May Sr and three brothers, Marvin Burke, James “Frank” Burke Jr, Carroll “Pete” Burke.

The family will receive friends at the Baker – Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA 20110 on Tuesday, October 25th from 5 – 7 PM. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26th at 11 AM.

Interment will be held following the funeral services at Stonewall Memorial Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway Manassas, VA 20109.
