Obituary for Eugene Paul Zeizel

Eugene Paul  Zeizel
Dr. Eugene Paul Zeizel, PhD, 77, of Woodbridge, passed away March 22, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 26, 1942 in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late John Zeizel and Katherine Emelanow Zeizel. On October 25, 1981 in Los Angeles, CA, he married the former Eileen Nyda, who survives him.
Mr. Zeizel worked as a civil engineer at F.E.M.A. for over 35 years, receiving numerous accolades for his service to our country. During this time he supported many important programs as a subject matter expert. He performed loss estimation studies for the National Earthquake Reduction Program. He also conducted surge studies for the National Hurricane Program. In the National Dam Safety Program he acted as a Contracting Officer Representative managing the development of training products, technical manuals, and tools that are now mainstays of the Dam Safety Profession. He developed and helped develop courses such as Emergency Action Planning for Dam Owners, Dam Safety, and the Dam Owner Education Workshops. These stand as cornerstones in Dam Safety professional development. He wrote and published several documents on Dam Safety.

Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Eileen Nyda-Zeizel of Woodbridge; one daughter, Kathy Augustine and her husband Kyle of Fairfax; two sons, Walter Zeizel of Woodbridge; Steven Zeizel and his wife Genesis also of Woodbridge; one grandson, Simon Augustine; and one brother, Art Zeizel of Maryland.
Mr. Zeizel’s personal accomplishments include he became an Eagle Scout, and later a Pack leader in Boy Scouts for his sons. He was a proud father and husband to his wife and 3 children.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Todd Tennant officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in Bright View Cemetery, Warrenton, VA.
