Paul's Sage Advice

Paul and I worked together at both GE and SAIC.. Despite our ribbiing each other about his attendance at Virginia Tech and my son's attendance at Virginia, Paull knew I respected his solid technical and anaalytical skills. We spent many hours together in technical meetings also many hours on the road and in the air traveling to customer sites.

But my fondest memory of Paul's sage comes fom when I lived in Reston. We had bought a house that was two stories, an attic and a finished, walk-out basement. My outside trim needed painting and it was difficult to find a reasonable quote for the job, so I decided to paint it myself. The back was basically 4 stories high and my ladders didn't come close to reaching. I considered renting an oversized ladder, and then a cherry picker and was discussing the various challenges with both at work one day.

After giving me the "fish eye" Paul finaly said "Yates, you're going to kill yourself.  Just write the darn check !"

And I did.
