Hempstead- a legend and a great man

Paul was my boss, my mentor and my friend. I had the good fortune to have worked with Paul at IBM and I was fortunate to learn the ropes of DHS under the steady hand of Hempstead. He was a man of few words and even fewer written words. His computer was called his email machine of which he only wrote few word emails that usually said approve, for you, or let it age. Paul was a great leader and cared deeply for everyone around him. He cared about me and my growing family and all the others on our team. He loved his family and loved to share stories about his beloved family and grandkids. Paul loved to gamble (if slots counts). One of my favorite memories was our trip to Louisville, Kentucky for a conference. We went on a little road trip to a casino. Several of us went to play blackjack and Paul of course went to take his spot at a carefully chosen slots machine. I dont think we got to play for more than 30 minutes before Paul came and said he was ready to go. Somehow he lost quite a few dollars on slots in 30 minutes. Paul always knew when to hold them and he knew when to fold them. Despite losing every now and then, he would always say he was still up! And thats a fact, Paul is always will be up! I will miss Paul a great deal and he will always live on as a legend to to so many of us that he Positively impacted. Life is too short but Paul made the most of his time on earth. May he Rest In Peace and his memory live on through all of us.
