Condolence From: Ron Petrie
Condolence: I first met Paul while he was at IBM. I was fortunate enough to observe him in professional settings at the Department of Homeland Security. He was always prepared, respected and fun to watch as he “worked the room”. Paul was truly a professional that I admired, and he was missed by his peers after he retired. He will be remembered as the sage one that made a difference to many who knew him. My sympathies to his family on his passing.

Condolence: I worked with Paul at IBM. We won a large deal together and over the course of delivering that deal, he showed me tremendous support. This was a space in which IBM had a poor track record of successful delivery. Together we made that deal the first wildly successful one in an otherwise troubled space. We enjoyed working together and I will always remember him fondly. May God keep his soul in a special place and give comfort to the family.

Condolence: Paul was very helpful to me when I made the transition from government service to private industry. He was the godfather at the SAIC division where I first landed and he helped me learn how to function successfully in a whole new world. He was the salt of the earth and had a wicked funny sense of humor. He often talked about his family and you could tell how much they meant to him. I'll miss him.

Condolence: As a friend of Nick's since we both were in elementary school, I've enjoyed the blessing of the Hempstead Family in my life for many years. Paul, or Mr. Hempstead as I knew him, was always kind, funny, and honest---three of the greatest qualities that a person can possess. I experienced his kindness on numerous trip's on the Hempstead Family boat where we would sail on the Potomac and into the bay. His humor sticks with me; I can still hear him imitating Bruce Springsteen's voice on his song Streets of Philadelphia, an admittedly bad parody that Mr. Hempstead broke out to show that Springsteen's vocals were not particularly special! Finally, Mr. Hempstead's honesty was crucial when he coached mine and Nick's youth basketball team. My father (Al Kaberline - he also posted a good message about this) was the head coach and on occasion he would have disagreements with the referees. Mr. Hempstead was the calming, honest voice on my dad's shoulder, always there to guide him when necessary. Mr. Hempstead possessed many other qualities than the three I mentioned, and I'm sure we all have own stories to illustrate the compassionate, witty, and straight forward man he was, but these were the glimpses I accumulated over the years that made me grateful for the blessing of Paul and the entire Hempstead Family in my family's lives.

Condolence: Our hearts ache for your loss. I hope you can take some comfort that Paul is with God and no longer ill. I'm sure he is with Grandpa toasting to the wonderful families that we all have while they sing, laugh, and exchange jokes once again. Our prayers are with you all! Love you!

Condolence: I am deeply saddened by the loss of Uncle Paul. I always enjoyed his quips and witty remarks when talking to him at family gatherings. We'd always chat a bit about nothing and have a good laugh. I will remember watching football with him and his laugh which always followed some witty quip.

Condolence: My Deepest Condolences,
I've worked with Barbara for over sixteen years, I met Paul first time in one of our company's Christmas party and on several other occasions. He was quiet and such a gentleman. I remember the way he'd looked at Barb with such admiration and love. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Love always,

Condolence: I’d like to extend my condolences to Barb and the entire Hempstead family. I worked with Bard for ages, and knew Paul only casually. Though, I have one remembrance which stands out in my mind when I recall Paul.

We had an early morning flight to Huntsville, out of National, on what turned out to be a snowy, wintry day. I was relieved to be able to take the subway. Paul drove Barb all the way in from Centreville, before heading back to work. I personally would do anything to avoid driving in the snow in this area. (Aside - I grew up in NY where people know how to drive in the snow.). I always thought that was such a loving thing to do. That’s how I think of Paul.
