Obituary for Gay O. Elkins

Gay O. Elkins
Gay Ona Elkins (nee Stout) of Manassas, VA, passed away on July 18, 2020 at the age of 88. She was born on July 23, 1931 in Clarksburg, WVA to Vida Beryl (Adams) and Clarence Carlyle Stout. She was predeceased by her parents and only sibling, Ruth Matthews.

Gay was married to the love of her life, Denzil Eldridge Elkins, for 54 years until his death in 2005. They had 5 children; Elaine Duckett (Nelson), Eileen Callahan (Richard), Denise Elkins, Lona Casanova (Luis), Kevin Elkins (Loretta) , 6 grandchildren; Thomas, Nicole and Christopher Duckett (Danielle), Kelly Callahan, Alexander Casanova, Matthew Elkins, and 3 great-grandchildren; Marissa, Kayden and Vanessa Duckett. They are also survived by loving and beloved nieces and nephews.

Gay was blessed with creative hands and loved to gift her artwork to family and friends. She especially enjoyed crocheting delicate pieces such as doilies. Many homes now have a personally “Handmade by Gay” heirloom created joyfully by her.

She worked at Baldwin Elementary School in the 70s and 80s as Head Baker where she became famous for her cookies, bread and cinnamon rolls. Her family was also the beneficiary of her confectionary skills enjoying chocolate cake every Sunday after church, homemade candy and ice cream, and Christmas cookies of every variety.

Gay loved butterflies, clouds, yellow roses, hot dogs, coconut cream pie and The Lawrence Welk Show. She was petite but a mighty fighter with strong opinions and an unfailing faith in God.

Gay Ona Stout Elkins leaves a legacy of perfectionism, generosity, humor, creativity, strength and a beautiful example of being a devoted spouse. She is loved and she will be missed greatly.

Good night, sleep tight… until we meet again.
