Obituary for George Thomas LaRocca

George Thomas LaRocca
George Thomas LaRocca, age 75, of Bristow, Virginia passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his loving family and dear family friend.

He was born on October 12, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Leonard and Jean LaRocca. After graduation from high school, he attended Farmingdale College, in New York, prior to entering the United States Army. While in the Army he served as a Red Eye Gunner until his honorable discharge in June 1970.

George graduated from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana with a Bachelors Degree in Entomology. He used his knowledge of Entomology while working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Product Manager.

He later transferred from New York to Virginia, in 1972, where he met his wife, Rose of 46 years. They married on July 27, 1974.

He retired in 2008, after dedicating 43 years with the Federal Government.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Loretta Paparella, of Broomfield, Colorado. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose, of 46 years, his cherished daughter, Sarah Jean and son-in-law, Chris Shaner, of Stephens City, VA. Also, his dear brother, Lenny and his wife, Ginny, of Bellport, NY, brother-in-law Al Paparella, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Jacob Varble, and sisters in laws, Mary and Pamela Barranco, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his precious dog, Maggie.

George had many interests. He loved to bowl, ski, golf, play baseball, bocce, fish, swim, play poker, go to the beach, garden, cook...and yes, he loved to eat. He loved being with his family and taking care of them. George also thoroughly enjoyed the company of his many friends. He was a long-time member of the R.O.M.E.O. Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out); something he looked forward to each and every week.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your favorite charities.
