Obituary for Gregory Alan Krause

Gregory Alan  Krause
Gregory Alan Krause, 51, of Manassas, passed away unexpectedly January 25, 2020.

Born October 17, 1968 in Iowa, he was the son of Duane and Sharon Sawyer Krause. On June 2, 1990 in Woden, IA, he married Lori L. DeWaard, who survives.

Master Police Officer Greg Krause, a 25-year veteran of the Prince William County Police Department was a well-respected and loyal member of his agency. He was a beloved friend to many. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years, obtaining the rank of sergeant, and served in the security detachment of the Presidential Helicopter Squadron (HMX-1) for four years. He joined the Prince William County Police Department in January 1995. He began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer in the Eastern District and served as a field training officer before becoming a firearms instructor at the Public Safety Training Academy in Nokesville, where he was currently assigned, as the Range Master.

During his 25-year career, Greg trained many current and retired members of the police department and was well known for his friendly demeanor and positive attitude. He enthusiastically pursued training and certifications to enhance his skills and abilities. He always volunteered to lead range day for retirees and for the Citizen’s Police Academy.

Greg was a firearms enthusiast who taught marksmanship on and off duty. He had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting firearms. He also valued camaraderie with veterans and colleagues.

Greg is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Lori Krause of Manassas; one son, Grant Krause also of Manassas; his parents, Duane and Sharon Krause of Iowa; his brother Thomas Krause and Sister-in-law Dawn, his niece Kellie Kay Krause, and a host of friends, relatives and beloved colleagues in the law enforcement and Marine Corp community.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas, with the Rev. YoungMin Kim officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Police Association Hall, 14288 Independent Hill Drive, Manassas, VA 20112.
