Gwen D McCrory, former resident of Decatur, Illinois has passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends after a long-term illness. Gwen spent her final years in Woodbridge Virginia with her mother and siblings near extended family.
Gwen spent her early years working multiple jobs primarily in food service at various restaurants and in housekeeping at a local hospital in Decatur. She developed many friendships and enjoyed her work immensely until she could no longer work outside her home. She also spent several years providing caretaking assistance within her home. She was a member of The Church of the Living God CWFF in Decatur.
She is survived by her mother, Mary L McCrory, brother Leonard H McCrory Jr, sister Cheryl Smart, nieces Candice R Smart, Kendra R Smart-Foster and husband Rob, one great niece Maiya, and two great nephews Rey and Remy Smart as well and an extensive extended family. She is preceded in death by her father Leonard H McCrory Sr., Grandparents Chauncy F & Hazel McCrory as well as Carl E & Cordelia Freeman and nephew Leonard H McCrory III.
Thank you, Father, for loaning us your daughter Gwen, she brought much richness and joy to our lives with her presence and blessed us immensely.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2021 in the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center’s Chapel 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas, VA 20110 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Due to Covid-19, a maximum of 35 are allowed in the chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Mildred Ingram officiating.
Interment will be held in Decatur, IL at a later date.
