Condolence From: Donald L. Mallick
Condolence: I worked with Herm, on a number of flight test projects at NASA Edwards. Herman was the scientist and engineer, I was the Test Pilot on some of his programs. I considered Herman a "Prince" of a man, and very intelligent person, and a great person to work with.

On this one year anniversary, I can only say to the family and friends, I considered Herman a great person, a great contributor to aviation development, and a friend. Don Mallick

Dear Sharon and family Rediess

The sad news about Herm’s passing away came to us via the e-mail of Sharilyn and we wish to offer you all our sincere condolences.

It looks just a short time ago, but actually it is already twelve years since we visited Herm and you, Sharon, in Gainesville, April 2010. At that time we shared our memories of the past and talked about all these good friends we had mutually gathered throughout our lives and careers. And thankfully I was able to tell Herm how much I had appreciated working together with him, he representing the research organisation of the USA, I the one of Europe in the field of Air Traffic Management.

Of course we all know that life is not given to us for always and we sensed from the New Year letters exchange and little stories we told each other in these letters that the threat of his disease never fully disappeared. But you always hope that such a nice person will live on and on and that there will be again an opportunity to meet and chat with each other. But nature doesn’t take such wishes into account and we have to accept that.

We hope that you, Sharon, together with Shari and Nick and their families, will find comfort in the great memories of Herm which will come to your mind and heart each time you look up to the paintings he made for you. The pain from losing him will never completely disappear but it will be gradually replaced by the good memories on such a great husband, father and personality.

With love,

Jan and Nelly van Doorn
