Obituary for Iris Thompson (Slusher)

Iris  Thompson (Slusher)
Iris (“Beckie”) Slusher Thompson, 89, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2022, with her loved ones by her side.

Born July 21, 1933, she was the daughter of Glenn Ray Slusher and Nellie Breeden Slusher. On February 24, 1952, in Manassas, she married Warren D. Thompson, Sr., who survives.

Mrs. Thompson was a lifelong resident of the Manassas, Gainesville, and Haymarket areas, and a longstanding member of Haymarket Baptist Church where she served for many years as the choir director.
Besides her loving husband of 70 years, she is survived by her sister, Sophie Kidwell; one son, Warren D. Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Dinah; one daughter, Dorothy M. French and her husband, Wayne; 5 grandchildren: Rebecca T. Wohlgemuth and her husband Edward; Elizabeth D.T. Payne and her husband Troye; William B. Thompson; Megan M. French, and Samantha K. French; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Nellie Slusher; and brothers, Glenn, Melvin (“Pete”), and Stuart Slusher

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral Services will be held on November 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Haymarket Baptist Church, 14800 Washington Street, Haymarket, VA 20169 with Dr. Dallas Stallings officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to Haymarket Baptist Church, the Alzheimer’s Research Association, and/or Samaritan’s Purse.
