Obituary for James Gilbert "Gilbert" Sanford Sr.

James Gilbert "Gilbert"  Sanford Sr.
James Gilbert Sanford Sr, age 89, of, Nokesville, Virginia, died Thursday, August 6, 2020, at his home while surrounded by family. Born March 17, 1931, in Warrenton, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Laurence Sanford and May Virginia Sanford. Gilbert retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in October 1991 after 35 years of service. Following retirement, Gilbert enjoyed building and refinishing furniture in his workshop.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anne Keziah Sanford. Surviving are his children, Vicki Young and her husband, Albert, of Sugar Hill, GA, Jim Sanford and his wife, Jeannie, of Catlett, VA, and Larry Sanford of Midland, VA. Survivors also include five grandchildren, six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Gilbert was the last surviving member of his immediate family, preceded in death by two sisters and
two brothers.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, August 12, from 11:00 a.m. until noon followed by a 12:00 p.m. service at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110. Burial will be in the Catlett Methodist Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Life Community Church Food Pantry, 9560 Linton Hall Road, Bristow, VA 20136 in memory of Gilbert Sanford.
