Obituary for Jennifer Elizabeth Dennis Squires

Jennifer Elizabeth Dennis Squires
Jennifer Dennis Squires, 49, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at INOVA Fairfax hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on August 22, 1969, she was the daughter of Joanne Rubright Delude and the late Patrick Faulk Dennis.

On May 20, 1994, at the Prince of Peace United Methodist Church in Manassas, she was married to Christopher Squires, who survives.

Jennifer was a graduate of Radford University with a BA in Anthropology/Sociology and attended UC Denver for her Master’s work. She was active in the Northern Virginia homeschool community for many years. She founded both Middle School Connection and Homeschool High School support groups which grew to include hundreds of families. She organized many activities and field trips for both groups, including visits to historic sites and museums, park days, weekly skating, and a monthly book club. Jennifer was instrumental in planning a number of dances for the homeschool community, as well as several graduation ceremonies. She leaves behind a legacy of many young people for whom she was an inspiration in both their home school education and their lives. She also spent many hours volunteering with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, and personally raised two Eagle Scouts of her own.

Jennifer is survived by her beloved husband of 24 years, Christopher Squires of Nokesville, Virginia; two children, Rane and Evan Squires, also of Nokesville; her mother, Jo Delude and her husband Scott of Colorado; a sister Paige McCarthy and her husband Brent, also of Colorado; her stepmother Pamela James Dennis of Virginia; one brother, James Dennis and his wife Lori of Ohio; two sisters, Wendy O’Brien, and Amanda Frikker and her husband Nick, all of Virginia; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 1, 2019, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Edwin Clever officiating.

Jennifer owned three Great Pyrenees dogs during her lifetime and loved the breed dearly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue through their website at https://www.agprescue.org/donate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Post.
