Juan Francisco Douglas Vasquez, of Manassas, Virginia, departed this life on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at the age of 79.

Douglas was born in Nicaragua on August 21, 1943. He was baptized in Christ on April 1944. He was a kind, funny, generous, giving soul, family man and a man of faith who was very involved in his church community.

Douglas proudly served the United States Army for 31 years, retiring as a Sergeant Major. Douglas also enjoyed his work as an engineer for BAE Systems, from which he retired. He had a passion for computers or anything electronic, and a passion for animals that came later in life, with him being known as the “cat man”.

Douglas was the beloved husband and best friend of Martha Baker Vasquez for 28 years. Between the marriage there was a blended family of eight children and 19 grandchildren with a great grandchild on the way.

Douglas was preceded in death by his mother, Maria De Jesus Mendieta Castro, and sister, Sandra C. Naveda. He is survived by his wife Martha, his children, Scott, spouse Amy, Deborah, John, Jason, spouse Elizabeth, Marvin, Natasha, spouse Brandon, Rose, spouse Mark, and Garrett, his grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. Directly following will be a memorial service.

Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Douglas’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Diabetes Association, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
