Obituary for Kamil Shamoun Poullath

Kamil Shamoun Poullath, or “Baba”, passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 82 years old, spending his last years at his home in Bristow, VA. Though he battled serious health issues in recent years, his loving attitude and toughness never wavered. He was true to himself until the end.

Kamil was born on October 22, 1939, in Alqosh, Iraq to Shamoun and Habah Poullath. As a youth, he was known for his incredible fitness and excellence in the sport of boxing. In 1968, he immigrated to America, became a citizen, and established himself in the restaurant business as a manager first and eventually an owner of two establishments. In 1978, he was united in marriage to his wife, Amera, and they would go on to have four loving children. To all who knew him, they can tell you about his charming demeanor and his sincere joy in being with those he loved, which was best demonstrated through cooking and serving—the question “Are you hungry?” was his favorite and hardest to say no to.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing backgammon, cards with family, evangelizing the faith, and simply being present with those around him—especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Amera Poullath, and their children, Rocky Poullath (Cassie), Renata Peters (Andrew), Robin Poullath (Molly), and Rita Franklin (Kyle); his brother Said Poullath; his sister Samira Poullath; his 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Bristow, Virginia. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Thomas P. Vander Woude officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in Bright View Cemetery in Warrenton, Virginia.
