Obituary for Kent Francis Sullivan
The early morning of Sunday, September 22, the lord called Kent home at the age of 86 while he was sleeping.
Kent was born to Francis Adams and Gertrude Faye Sullivan in Abilene, KS. Francis and Gertrude had 3 children (Kent, Lynn, and Richard), Kent being the eldest. He married Virginia in June of 1958. Together they had 3 children before Virginia passed away in 1994. The eldest child, Benjamin Joseph Sullivan, gave his life fighting in Vietnam. They had another son, Greg, and a daughter, Susan. After Virginia passed, he found companionship with Jean Lane and they were together for 25 years. With this new family, Kent gained four additional step-children. Altogether, he had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kent was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He retired from the US Army after 25 years of service. At the time of discharge, Kent was honored with many decorations, medals, badges, and awards. They are: Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Good Conduct Medal 6AWD, Meritorious Service Badge, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm. While serving, he was with the 101st Airborne, served in Vietnam as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Specialist, served with the Rangers in Fort Devans, Drove for the White House from Richard Nixon’s first term to George H. W. Bush. He joined the Secret Service after retiring from the Army. Driving for Gray Drugfair was his next occupation with his buddy and side-seat passenger, mini-mutt! He stood for everything he believed to be right, an All-American man! He was a devoted member of Manassas Church of Christ. He was an avid dog lover and jokester. Some of his favorite things were listening to famous radio broadcaster Paul Harvey with “The Rest of The Story”, reading and telling corny jokes, watching “Keeping up Appearances”, playing with all kinds of dogs, and being with family. Don’t forget, “Keep ‘er under a hundred”.
At 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 the family will have a Celebration of Life service at Manassas Church of Christ, 8110 Signal Hill Rd, Manassas, VA.
