Oh goodness, this makes my heart so heavy. Kirsten was my very best friend in high school and as most of us do, we went our separate ways..off to college…and then on with our lives. I saw Kirsten about 15 years ago and I remember feeling as though only a day had passed between our visits and not a decade or so. Anne was young …as was my son… and even as young mothers we were just as giddy as ever, that afternoon. She was the BEST high school friend I could have hoped for! She was loyal and funny and smart and kind…and mischievous! We pulled practical jokes, left anonymous notes, had secret codes and nicknames for folks—she was just so much fun to be around. She and I had some really funny inside jokes (she had a wicked sense of humor) and if I try, I can hear her giggle right now—her cheeks turning bright red and her eyes watering with our laughter. I’ll remember you this way, dear friend, and think of you at peace now.
