Obituary for Lawrence E. Evans

Lawrence E. Evans
Lawrence Eugene (Larry) Evans, 85, of Warrenton, passed away April 10, 2023, at Fairfax County Hospital. Our hearts are mourning, but also rejoicing in the long, incredible full life Larry lived.

Born December 30, 1937, in Stockton, Illinois, he was the eldest son of the late Jesse and Florence Evans. On October 5, 1958, he married the love of his life, Katherine (Kitty) Naugle. For more than 64 years they were happily married, fully devoted to each other and their family.

Larry worked as a Ramp Service Agent for TWA (Trans World Airlines) at both Dulles and National Airports. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves. He was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia when, on a blind date, he met Kitty. Together they lived and built their beloved family of 5 in the Northern VA area, including Brentsville, VA and Warrenton, VA.

Larry was a good man - a caring husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend. He would do anything for you and expect nothing in return. He loved music, sports, gardening, and fishing. He took up the guitar in his 60s. He made art projects and loved giving them away to friends and family. He enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys; win or lose he was a devoted fan. He had a green thumb and growing a summer vegetable garden was one of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed hanging birdhouses and hummingbird feeders in his yard and picking raspberries from his bushes in the summertime. Hosting family get-togethers at their home in Warrenton was one of his favorite things and he would always embrace each person as they walked through the door with his warm hug and smile. He loved to fill their home with laughter, love, and family. Sitting on their screened-in back porch, surrounded by his family, was when life felt sweet and full to him. He loved to make others laugh and he spread joy to all who knew him.

Those left to cherish and carry on his incredible legacy include his wife, Kitty; three children, Connie Davis and her late husband Tommy of Manassas, Valerie Kuznear and her husband Mike of Marshall, and Alan Evans and his wife Tracy of Midlothian. He was incredibly proud of his family that now includes seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren (plus one on the way). The loss of the patriarch of the Evans family leaves a large hole that can never be replaced, but his family will celebrate his legacy and cherish his memory forever. He was an incredible man who loved God. Though we are mourning, we are thankful for the hope of Heaven and the reunion that will take place with him when we see him again.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A celebration of Larry’s life will take place in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Donna Leahy officiating. Interment will take place in Culpeper National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society on his behalf or to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Larry's wife, Kitty.
