The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lawrence Yack can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

I will miss you Larry!

Larry was a free thinker.  He embraced problems with unique effective solutions.  This was true whether it was solving a clinical problem, scheduling issue, getting to work, or building a treehouse.  He found innovative solutions to them all.  He liked to find the most efficient way to do things and was always excited to share his strategy.  He once told me that he had to drive to Boston to get Michelle’s dog, it was a long drive, but that was OK because on the way back he managed to get the best tee time to play golf with his friend who lived sort of along the route.  I don’t know what he did with the dog, but I’m sure there was a scheme for that problem as well.  He would teach far from home, get a red eye flight back and sleep in his car to avoid a hotel fee.  He always looked good and never showed fatigue doing this.  I would look like a strung-out homeless man if I tried that.

Larry loved competition and loved to work the system.  He even shared some of these “stick it to the man” (exact quote) strategies with me.  I would get swept up in his zeal and nod my head agreeing enthusiastically, because he was so infectiously enthusiastic, and then get 4 steps away from the conversation to realize “wait, aren’t I the man?”

Talking with Larry was sometimes like two ships passing in the night.  We would both talk about something absolutely related to what the other person was saying, but the two conversations never quite met.  They got close, but no connection.  Other times, you just got swept up in his passionate opinions: “Again, it’s patient expectations Mike!”, and found yourself doing what he said you should do without meaning to even when you disagreed with him.  I think he put a spell on me sometimes.

Larry was generous with his time, skills and expertise.  He shared food, built custom equipment and was an indefatigable mentor.  His love of Disney, Streisand, Gaga, Neil Diamond, and Sinatra were endearing.  I loved his energy, sense of humor, intellect and friendship.  He had a wonderful impact on so many, many people.  He had a huge impact on me.  He improved lives for a living.  I count myself in that group.  I will miss him dearly.  I am blessed to have had the privilege of knowing him.
