The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lawrence Yack can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Dr. Larry

Larry Yack has been - and will continue to be - one of my motivating factors for how I practice and educate future generations of physical therapists.  Larry served as my primary mentor in education with the University of St. Augustine’s continuing education program, and his methods have blended into my interactions with my patients in the clinic as well.  He has played an irreplaceable role in the clinician and educator that I have become today, and I am forever thankful.

My family was lucky enough to have a personal relationship – outside of the classroom - with Larry and Kandi as 2-3 times a year we would get together when Larry was in town teaching.  Early on - before kids - these were “professional meetings” where we caught up on our individual lives and discussed professional issues.  As our kids came along, these meetings continued but changed locations from the fancy steakhouse or trendy Chicago pub to places like the Rainforest Café or Ed Debevic’s– Larry putting the kids' interests first.  The focus of the meetings changed from the latest hot button PT issues to “what dessert looks the best on the menu.”  Our two young daughters would always look forward to our downtown dinner meetings with “Dr. Larry,” as he would always stop at the Disney store on Michigan Avenue to grab them the latest and greatest Disney trinket.  Several times, Lisa and I had the opportunity to get a sitter for the girls for these meetings, but Larry’s response was ALWAYS to bring them.  Once, he jokingly threatened to cancel if they didn’t come.  It was almost like he looked forward to having the opportunity to shop for and see them was the greatest joy of the get together.  Larry was our educator with the continuing education program, my mentor in education, but over the years Larry and Kandi became our family friends.

When learning of Larry’s illness, Lisa and I were very shocked and saddened.  When learning of his passing, we were and still are devastated.  Through his natural outgoing nature, Larry has impacted so many people over the years, as he has greatly impacted our family.  I will forever remember Larry for his love for family, love for Christmas, golf, and everything Disney.  We will always remember and cherish these good times and use Larry’s positive outlook on life and uplifting attitude as a means on how to move onward and upward.  Our thoughts and well wishes are with Kandi and the family during this time.
