Obituary for Lillian Elizabeth Mahoney (Dulin)

Lillian Elizabeth Mahoney (Dulin)
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Lillian Mahoney, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2020.

Lillian was born on May 17, 1924 in Queen Anne, Maryland to the late John P. Dulin, Jr. and Alma Beatrice Welch. Her mother passed away when she was just 6 years old and so began a life of hardships.
Lillian grew up on her father’s farm and would always say she was a “farm girl.” She graduated from Cordova High School and upon graduation, she went to Chestertown, Maryland where she worked in an ammunitions plant for the war effort.

In 1943, she met and married William Wilson Mahoney. Later that year her first child, Elaine, was born. She lived with her beloved father while her husband served in World War II. Later, they added 3 more daughters to their family, Geneva, Martha, and Lillian “Sugie”.

After moving to Manassas, Virginia, she worked as a waitress for several years, and later she became a presser for Crest Cleaners and retired from there.

Lillian loved her family very much. It was her great pleasure to have her “girls” and their families come to her house for Sunday dinner. She was a good cook and quite the seamstress for her children. Her pastimes included growing house plants, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and playing solitaire. She also loved to dance and tell jokes.

Lillian enjoyed 96 years of living and loving. She is survived by her daughters; Elaine Holdaway (Curtis), Geneva Shumate, and Martha Stanley; sisters, Jacquelyn Hurley (Leroy), Eloise Dulin and brother, Franklin Dulin. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Tony Shumate, Jeannie Riley (Chuck), Michelle Gonzalez, Curtis Holdaway, Jr. (Mary), Debbi Summerfield (Carl), and great-grandchildren, Chad Riley (Greer), Danielle Riley, Jesse Prather, Amber and Hunter Summerfield, Adam and Evan Holdaway, Lexie and Austin Shumate, Vanessa and Joseph Gonzalez, Courtney Brummett, and great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Paisley Riley.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Mattie Dulin; daughter, Sugie; brothers, John Dulin III, Leslie Dulin, Crawford Dulin, and Ellsworth Dulin; sisters, Alma Chance, Myrtle Pressley and Dorothy Dulin. Two grandchildren, William Stanley IV and Martha Lee Brummett also preceded her in death.

She will be forever remembered and greatly missed.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia with Rev. Dallas Slemp officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in the Cannon Branch Cemetery in Manassas, Virginia. Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the charity of your choice.
