Obituary for Linda Jean Barger

Linda Jean Barger
On Sunday, September 18, 2022, Linda Richards Barger, loving wife and mother of two daughters, passed away peacefully at the age of 77. Linda was born on June 27, 1945, in Homestead, PA to Richard and Ruth Richards. Linda attended Juniata College and Peirce College where she earned her Associates Degree in Science. On August 20, 1966, she married Barry Lee Barger. After getting married Linda worked for Fairchild Industries and The National Geographic Society. Linda stayed home for over twenty years raising her daughters, Lori and Sheri, and then worked for Manassas Christian School and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) where she retired in 2000.

Linda loved traveling with Barry. They made trips to the Bahamas, England, Scotland, and Italy, as well as many locations throughout the United States and Canada. She was passionate about her family and loved every minute she had with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Linda’s love for the Lord was evident. Throughout the years she served on many committees and volunteered with the children’s ministry. She served as a lay leader, the Chair of Sunbeam Children’s Council, and most recently was known for the over 5,000 hand-written notes of love, sympathy, healing, and encouragement she sent to her church family. Linda was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of St. Thomas for 38 years.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Richard Richards. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Barry, her children, Lori (Jeff), Sheri (Kurt), and her grandchildren, Kelly (Chase), Madison, Sarah, and Alexandra. She is also survived by her brother Donald Richards as well as his wife Beverly and their children, Andrew and Jennifer.

A celebration of life will be held on October 22, 2022, at St. Thomas United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Her ashes will be interred at the St. Thomas United Methodist Church columbarium in a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the St. Thomas United Methodist Church Local Relief Fund.
