Obituary for Margaret Leona Fleury

Margaret Leona Fleury
Margaret Leona (Carey) Fleury died peacefully in her home on a beautiful
spring day on May 7, 2020. She was surrounded by family and friends who
loved her. A devoted wife to Armand Fleury for over 63 years, she was his
best friend, travel partner and often caregiver. To her children Kip,
Tammie, Julie, Vicki and Keith, she was the greatest of all mothers. Each of
us felt our mother truly was our best friend, she will be dearly missed.

Margaret was a teacher with the Fairfax County School system for over 30
years and was nominated several times for ‘teacher of the year'. After
retirement she worked as an aide for kindergarten classes at Wakefield
Forest Elementary School, retiring permanently at age 80. Margaret had a
deep faith in God and was a devout Catholic. While in Rome, she had her
rosary blessed by Pope John Paul II and kept it under her pillow at all
times. She attended service each week and arrived early for the parish’s
saying of the rosary. Margaret was always a voracious reader and an active
member of the Glenverdant Book Club for many years. Her love of
reading, discussions of books and philosophies in general are shared
throughout the family.

Margaret enjoyed traveling a few times a year, her favorite trips were to
Ireland, Italy, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Vermont and several midwestern
states. Margaret and Armand also spent time with our extended
family in Monroe, Connecticut and Malone, New York.

Margaret is survived by her husband Armand Fleury, Kip (Rosemary)
Fleury and their children, Kaitlyn (Michael Yoder), Brian (Amanda), Karis
and David. Tammie (Tom) Boyle and their daughter Ashley (Joshua
Kacprzak), great grandchildren Niyah Howell and Lailah Kacprzak. Julie
(Randy) Emery, their children Lindsey Glennon (Sean), great
grandchildren, Peyton and Collins, Curtis (Kaitlynn), great grandchild
Ryleigh, Nevada Yarbough (Brandon), great grandchildren, Nevaeh and
Brandon Jr. Vicki Van Blaricom, grandchild, Leah and Keith Fleury.
Margaret’s beloved sister Beverly (Carey) Zwierlein (Robert), and their
children Linda Zwierlein Rizzitelli (John) and Laurie Zwierlein Purciello
(Philip).

One of our father’s favorite songs is ‘Over the Rainbow’ sung by Judy
Garland. He truly believes, as we all do, that his wife, our beloved mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, is ‘somewhere
over the rainbow, way up high’...

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made
to either Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington at https://
secure.ccda.net/Give/Give/Donate/Giving.aspx or The Foundation for
Fairfax County Public Schools at https://fcpsfoundation.z2systems.com/

Due to the uncertain times in which we live today, all services and interment will be private.
