Obituary

After a long illness, Marie Cardinal died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 27, 2019. Born Marie Antoinette Minichino to Michael and Pauline Minichino in Brooklyn, New York on December 13, 1939, she was the eldest of 3 children. Marie married Robert Cardinal (1933-2009) in January 1960, and together they had 4 children. They moved to Virginia in December 1976.

Marie worked for 17 years as a Vice President of Human Resources for Time Life, Inc. After retiring, she was very active in her community. In her Regency at Dominion Valley neighborhood, she was a member of the Regency Cancer Support Group; a co-organizer of the annual Talent Show; a Women’s Club participant; and an enthusiastic member of the Book Club. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society.

Marie loved her family boundlessly. She enjoyed bridging the gap between generations by sharing wonderful memories and family recipes (like the family Christmas cookie recipe). Marie also played an active role in her family member’s lives, always making a point to be at their events and celebrate their milestones. Marie was also a voracious reader, especially enjoying historical fiction and romance novels.

Preceded in death by her brother Michael Minichino, Marie is survived by her sister Paula Minichino. Marie is also survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Theresa and Danny Lee, Lauren, Hugh, and Everett and Louis McCarthy, Dylan and Katie Lee, Barbara and Tim Thompson, Tanja, Matt, and Giuliana and Domenic Champagne, Ashley and Chris Clemmons, Bob and Kathy Cardinal, Corinne Cardinal, Cameron Cardinal, Michael Cardinal and Jamie Gross, Ali Gross.

A Visitation will be held at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia 20110 on Friday, Oct 4th, 2019 beginning at 6pm, with a Prayer Service at 7pm. View Visitation details here: https://www.bakerpostfh.com/memorials/marie-cardinal/3978451/obituary.php

Clarence and I were very saddened to hear about Marie's passing. She was a great neighbor to us for 13+ years. I was also very grateful to Marie for introducing me to the Red Hat group. Marie invited me to join the group and she was always willing to drive to our gatherings. Marie will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her.

With Deepest Regret and Sympathy,

So sorry to hear that Marie is gone!
For me, anytime I think about Time Life, Marie is an important part of it. Quick to offer a solution, ready with a story, always for the underdog. She was a trove of stories and examples, from her past, the company’s past, and life in general. But above all, if you went to see her you knew you would get the right solution. Sitting in her office was almost comfort. Having the desk in front of the door, so not to intimidate to visitor to ‘HR’, was helpful – but having Betty Boop watching you from the wall was key. You knew everything will be allright. I know you and your family know it all.
May Marie rest in peace.

Dear Marie Cardinal family. My name is Dan Meyerson. I was the president at time life when Marie was there. I am so sorry to hear about her passing. Marie was an remarkable woman who was in the leading edge of Human Resources. She was integral in creating equal pay regardless of sex and race. She also was a key in getting pension benefits for everybody (sales reps, supervisors, administrative support and management). TLLI had hundreds of people qualify and who are still receiving their pension benefits. These benefits are pivotal to many people’s ability to retire comfortably.
Marie was funny, smart and incredibly loyal. The entire organization was blessed to have her help us to be the most profitable subsidiary under the entire time life umbrella. I / we and time inc we’re lucky to have her be with us for over twenty years. Loving thought and memories - Danny - RIP!!!

I remember Marie for her laugh and the memories she shared of you, her children. She was a loving, caring, understanding individual who loved her family with everything she had. She also facilitated my reunion with my biological father who I was made aware of in 1959 at the age of 6, but didn't meet until I was 46. Thank you Marie. Bobby, Theresa, Michael and Barbara, Her love, the memories you made, the jokes you shared and the life lessons that will always stay with you are forever her gifts to you. Love, Brenda and Bill Look
