Obituary for MaryAnne C. Sensel (Carter)

MaryAnne Carter Sensel passed away peacefully surrounded by love on May 14, 2023, at the age of 84. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Charles Fredrick Sensel Jr., her son Charles Fredrick Sensel III and an infant granddaughter Maria Lynn Sensel. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Claire and Hugh Pettit, grandchildren Hugh Carter and Joseph Reilly Pettit, Charles Fredrick Sensel IV, Samantha Leigh Sensel and her great granddaughter BayLeigh Anne Brooks. Also surviving her dearest cousin and best friend Barbara Sue Carter and numerous cousins and family near and far.

A lifelong resident of Manassas, she was the daughter of Louis M.W. and Annie (Mayhugh) Carter; the granddaughter of Osceola and Josephine Carter; and the great granddaughter of James Shirley and Catherine Hixson Carter. All her immediate ancestors were farmers outside of Manassas itself, including her maternal grandparents Douglas Joseph and Maude Elizabeth Mayhugh of Greenwich, Virginia. In addition to her full-time career as wife, mother, and homemaker she was active in various school related programs, serving as Treasurer of the PTA, classroom assistant and a Camp Fire Girl Leader when Chuck and Claire attended Coles Elementary. She was a library volunteer at Marsteller Middle School during their middle school years.

Having been trained in business education (Osbourn High School Class of 1956) she held responsible positions at Prince William Electric Cooperative (NOVEC), Manassas Telephone Company and Virginia Craft Printing.

An activity she especially enjoyed was the OHS/OPHS Alumni Association, whose annual reunions she attended regularly. She served as the association’s Treasurer for many years. She was very proud of being an OHS “Yellow Jacket”. Both her children and her grandchildren were Jackets, Blue & Gold. Three generations (five people) Of OHS/ OPHS alumni _ surely a record!

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:00 at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home chapel with Interment immediately following in Hixson Family Cemetery, Manassas, VA.
