Obituary for Maureen Antoinette Dunkley

Maureen Antoinette Dunkley
Maureen Antoinette Dunkley was a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. The Lord called her home to eternal rest in the early morning of January 19, 2022, at the age of 47, after a courageous battle with scleroderma. Maureen passed peacefully in her sleep. Her loved ones will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Live each day as if it’s your last, for tomorrow is not promised.

Maureen was born at Jubilee Hospital to Millicent Jeffrey (neé Kirlew) and Trevor Dunkley on May 22, 1974, in Kingston, Jamaica.

Maureen attended Bogue Primary, in Bogue, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Her childhood was filled with pleasant memories, music, and mischief -making. She was raised in the church by her Bogue, St. Elizabeth family. At age 13, Maureen moved to Southern California. Her Norwalk family continued to instill the values of integrity, curiosity, and spirituality in her. She graduated from John Glenn High School in 1992.

After high school, Maureen moved to Alexandria, Virginia for a brief time before heading to Job Corp career training in West Virginia. She completed training there and was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia for advanced training in 1993. Upon the completion of that training, she was placed at United Airlines, in Sterling, Virginia where she worked as a Customer Service Rep. for about 7 years. To supplement her income and her joy of shopping, Maureen concurrently worked at Hampton Inn Hotel.

In 2001, Maureen was promoted to Rate Desk Support-Lead at United Airlines. She was promoted, again, to Lead Customer Service Rep in 2006, and once more to Supervisor in 2017. In her nearly 28 years of service with the airline, Maureen formed close bonds and established life-long friendships with many of her coworkers.

Maureen met Derrek Reese when she lived in Laurel, Maryland. They dated for a number of years before bringing baby Dylan Kingston Reese into the world on May 13, 2009. About a year before her passing, she purchased her very own home in Manassas, Virginia. Maureen was a resilient, hard-working, self-sacrificing single mother. Everything she did, from Dylan’s conception to her final breath, was for her precious son.

Mo/Mo Mo/or Reenie, as she was affectionately called, was a God-fearing woman. She attended church on and off from childhood through adulthood. When she wasn't physically in church, she read her bible or stayed prayerful. She now resides among the angels.

Maureen was preceded in death by paternal grandmother Rose Morris, maternal grandparents, Herbert Kirlew and Lete Kirlew and uncles, Donald and Jubert. Maureen’s memory will be forever cherished by her mother, Millicent Jeffrey, her father, Trevor Dunkley, her stepfather, Merton Jeffrey, her 12-year-old son, Dylan Reese, her sisters, Melissa Jeffrey and Michell Jeffrey, and her brother, Joel Dunkley. She’s further survived by her uncles, Sydney, Eric, Kingsley, Leslie, Kenneth, and Audley and her aunts, Pearl, Nesta, Enid, Elsa, and Violet, nieces, Kaylee and Kayla, and dozens of cousins, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the “Honor Maureen Dunkley” GoFundMe page created for (son)Dylan’s secondary education. Additional donations may be made to charities for scleroderma research and cure.
