Obituary for Melanie Linda Mckenna

Melanie Mckenna had a zest for life. She wanted to experience everything and she did….from bungee jumping to riding horses in the ocean to going down the meanest roller coasters or waterslides – she wasn’t afraid of anything. She was also very talented and creative as an artist, and even sold some of her artwork at a young age. She was funny, loyal to her friends, loved her family, found ways to champion the less fortunate and the underdogs in her life and was crazy about animals (her favorites were the true underdogs of the animal world – snails – for example.)

Her teen years were very difficult. We almost lost her through her pain and anger. Many people prayed for her and God did not disappoint. Melanie was fighting her way back to giving herself and her infant son Jonah a good life when her time on this earth came to an end due to an automobile accident at the age of 20.

She had finished her GED, scored exceptionally well on the SAT’s, started college, bought a car, had a steady job and was working hard on repairing many of the relationships that had been damaged. When we tell Jonah about his mother Melanie, we will tell him she was a fighter at heart and how hard she was fighting for him. This is how we will remember her.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7th, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110.

A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 3:15 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
