Obituary for Michael Richard Fraga

Michael Richard Fraga
Michael Richard Fraga, 56, passed away on December 30, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. Mike is survived by many who love and admire him including his wife Tina, children Rachel and Anthony, parents Richard and Annette Fraga, sister Lori Law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mike was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts and moved many times with his family until finally settling in Haymarket, VA at the start of his freshman year in high school. Mike graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, Manassas VA in 1982. He attended James Madison University and graduated in 1986 with a BA in Business Administration. After college Mike married his high school sweetheart Tina in 1988.

As a loving and devoted husband and father, Mike cherished his family. Whether it be spending time together at home or on vacation, dates with Tina, coaching Anthony in sports, supporting Rachel’s passion for music and dance, or being a spectator at games or recitals, there was never a family moment he missed. He was an extremely positive person with a “can do” attitude and was the source of fun and laughter in his home. He will be remembered by his family for his carefree nature, sense of humor, abundant energy, passion for living his life to the fullest, and devotion to family.

Mike was an active member in his church and community. He loved God and loved people, so it was fitting that he became involved in the youth ministry at Park Valley Church where he and his family attended. Mike taught Sunday school and volunteered as a chaperone on youth retreats. For the past several years, he and Tina volunteered as mentors; working with couples in preparation for marriage. In his community of Haymarket VA, Mike coached youth football. The “Grizzlies” were a part of his life for many years where those that played on the team remember his enthusiasm, motivational messages, and his competitive nature.

Mike had a successful career in the IT Sales industry. His most recent position was VP of US Sales for Menlo Security. His eager willingness to accept and meet the challenges of building a business speaks volumes about his personality and work ethic. Most important to Mike were the relationships he built along the way with colleagues who would eventually become his friends. Building connections with people was the essence of Mike.

Mike’s Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11am. Due to COVID concerns, it will be a virtual service. Family and friends are invited to view the service on Tina’s Facebook page which will be made public. A “Celebration of Life” will be organized in 2021 when it is safe to gather as a larger community.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mike may be directed to support Dr. Joy Feliciano’s research at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Mike’s team of doctors and staff were there for him night and day and became like family. They will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family as they did in Mike’s.
