Obituary for Patricia Rose Blakely

Patricia Rose Blakely
Patricia Rose Wright Blakely, 81, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on December 27, 2018, at Prince William Hospital with her daughter by her side.

Trish is survived by her two children, Jonathan P. (Laura) Blakely of Middlefield, Ohio, and Marjorie (Jonathan).Fellows, of Bristow, VA. The real light of her life in recent years has been her three granddaughters, Sarah (Marco) Angel, Rachel (Logan) Gray, and Julia Fellows.

Trish was born on December 7, 1937 in Salem, New Jersey to the late Joseph Locuson and Mildred G. Wright. After graduating from Salem High School, she moved to Ohio to attend Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was active in Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Trish graduated with her B.A. in English in 1959 and married the late Jonathan Blakely in 1960.

Eventually settling in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Trish became active in her community. She was active in the PTA, serving as Fairfax Elementary PTA Chairman, was her daughter’s Brownie Girl Scout leader, served on numerous school and community committees and was elected to the Cleveland Heights City Council and its Vice-Mayor.

During this time, Trish developed a deep interest in her own family history and genealogy in general. She researched her family heritage and then became involved in a number of lineage societies. Her return to New Jersey gave her more time and opportunity for research. She also worked as a substitute teacher, tutor, and a professional genealogist. At the time of her death, she was working on a book based on letters her great-grandfather, his brother, and brother-in-law wrote home while fighting in the Civil War. Trish’s research proved the family legend that her great-great uncle had in fact died in the notorious Confederate Andersonville Prison.

Truly, Trish’s greatest joy in her later years has been her family. She enjoyed numerous get-togethers with her cousins and visits with her children. But the shining stars have been her granddaughters. Two of her granddaughters share Trish’s middle name of “Rose”, which she received in honor of her grandmother, Rose. Two of Trish’s biggest regrets were that she was not able to travel to attend either Sarah and Marco’s wedding or Rachel and Logan’s weddings. She was able to spend her final Christmas with her youngest granddaughter, Julia.

Family will receive friends on Saturday January 5, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas, VA 20110. At 2:00pm a service will be held with Pastor Todd Tennant officiating.

Interment will be private and at a later date.
