Obituary for Patricia J. MacDonald

Patricia (Pat) J. MacDonald, 80, formerly of Schenectady, New York, passed to eternal life peacefully on Friday afternoon, 2 June 2023 in her apartment at The Wellington Lake Manassas, Gainesville, Virginia.

Born in New York on 15 April 1943, she was the daughter of the Late Robert D. and Jean S. MacDonald. She was preceded in passing by her brother Robert D. (Bob) Jr.

Surviving is her nephew and two nieces, Steven MacDonald (Lynn MacDonald), Susan Harisch (Matt Harisch), and Kristen Gates (Howie Gates), to whom she was “Auntie Pat”. She loved all her great-nephews and nieces.

Pat was a graduate of the State University of New York, College at Cortland, where she received her Master’s Degree in Teaching. She was a career school teacher much of her time served within the Mohonasen Central School District where she resided near Albany, NY for nearly 58 years, most recently and for many years in Schenectady, NY. She moved to Virginia in 2020 during the COVID crisis to be closer to family as her health declined.

Pat loved the outdoors. She enjoyed traveling in her RV, camping and hiking of all sorts, boating, and skiing. She would tell of her many camping trips and two of her favorite vacations: touring castles in Scotland and cruising in Alaska. She loved to sing, and dabbled on piano, guitar, and had an eclectic collection of percussion instruments. Pat was very charitable giving generously to a number of charities including the Audubon Society of which she was a member (details below) and St. Joseph’s Indian School (Lakota Sioux) to name just two. Pat notably cared for her Mother and Father who both endured prolonged infirmities – at different times – that spanned several decades.

She will be missed dearly.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 15, 2023, for a Celebration of Life Ceremony at The
Wellington Lake Manassas, Gainesville, VA starting at 3:00p.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The National Audubon Society -
